A group of southerners, led by Ven Borelle Kovida Thero, Incumbent, Kollonnawa Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya on Monday (26) took a large stock of school accessories to Pooneryn area for distribution among needy school children after the 66 Division Headquarters brought the need to the attention of those philanthropists.
A total of 200 relief parcels of school accessories, each worth about Rs 1500/= taken by the monk and his members of the laity to the area, were thus distributed among needy students during a simple ceremony at the Kiranchi school with the participation of the donor-monk and the 663 Brigade Commander representing Brigadier Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division.
The programme, intended to promote bonds of goodwill and reconciliation as another civil-community oriented project of the 66 Division, got underway with the blessings of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN). The event at Kiranchi school was organized and staged by 2 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 663 Brigade on the guidance of Brigadier C.D Weerasooriya, Commander, 663 Brigade.
During the occasion, 200 students of the Kiranchi Government Tamil Mixed School, between 5-16 years of age and belong to low-income family groups received those school accessories free of charge.
Brigadier C.D Weerasooriya, Commander, 663 Brigade representing Brigadier Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division was the day’s Chief Guest, together with several senior Army officers, Grama Niladari, Principals, teachers and students of the schools.
