Southerners on Army Initiative Erects New School Building in Kilinochchi

Sri Lanka Army initiated project that facilitates conduct of classes for school students at Vigneshwara Maha Vidyalaya in Kilinochchi saw its fruition on Tuesday (3) when the new building sponsored by southerners was vested in the children during a special ceremony, headed by Hon Reginald Cooray, Governor for Northern Province.

The project saw its birth after Colonel Kithsiri Ekanayake, Brigade Commander, 661 Brigade observed back a section of the students in this school remain without proper places for their classes in the school premises who afterwards volunteered help the school with the blessings of Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN).

The construction of the new classroom complex that would accommodate as many as some 200 school students was amply supported by a group of south-based donors including Mr Peter Ananda, Director, Melwa Company, Dr Ajith Balasooriya, University of Colombo, Mr M.S Safeekan, Divisional Marketing Manager, Holcim Lanka Ltd, Mr Gupta, General Manager, IRCON, Rev Father Felix Mellawa, Parish Priest, Don Bosco Church, Mr Ravilal Managama, Production Director, Sanken Lanka (pvt) Ltd, Mr Indika Wimaladasa, Mega Polis Project, Western Province, Mr Nihal Roopasinghe, CECB Company and several other Sri Lankan Airlines members Mr Madan Devendran, Mr Venura Perera, Mr Nuwan Gunaratne, Mrs Evangeline Lipan.

At the invitation of the Kilinochchi SF Commander, the Governor for Northern Province cut a ribbon and formally opened the new building in the presence of the Principal, teachers, students and the parents.

15 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) troops jointly contributed their expertise for the construction of the building.
