Soldier’s Bravery Saves Woman’s Life

Two soldiers belonging to 16 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) serving under the 571 Brigade of the 57 Division in the Security Forces  Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ – KLN) immediately offered their help to rescue  a mother of two kids who was about to drown in a 15 feet deep well at Barathipuram on Saturday (24) afternoon.

On hearing the screaming of her two children for help, the two soldiers, Corporal G. S. P.  Dharmasena and Private G. K. N. Kavintha who were on their way back to the camp via Barathipuram after holiday rushed to the scene and inquired about the reason for the melee as some people in the vicinity were gathering there.     

The 37-year old mother, K. Amudha who had accidentally fallen into the drinking water well was struggling to survive when the two soldiers closely observed the victim and acted fast finding a rope.

Within no time Corporal G. S. P.  Dharmasena jumped into the well, realizing the gravity of the situation risking his own life while the other soldier assisted him from the outside with a rope, supported by neighbours who gathered there.   

Finally, the soldier inside managed to rescue the sinking woman and safely took her out from the well with the support of the rope that was put into the well by the assisting soldier. Neighbours also supported drawing the woman and the soldier out who were clinging on to the rope.
