Soldiers Pocket Out Own Money to Get Power Supply to the Barber Saloon

4 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) officers and other ranks of the 59 Division, offering their helping hand of understanding and friendship to a deserving civil tradesman in Wattapalai, Mulliyaveli of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), pocketed out their own money, enabling him to get electricity for his barber saloon.

Mr. Shanmugan Rankumar of Wattapalai, Mulliyaveli with his 3 children (2 girls and 1 boy), has been running a barber saloon in a tiny stall sans electricity in the general area of West Kanukkerni while his wife, Rankumari, a former LTTE woman cadre who had sustained injuries was confined home to take care of their children.

However, the barber had told the Commanding Officer, 4 SLLI that he wished to have electricity for his saloon since it is not very convenient for him to run the business late into the evening but his financial constraints to achieve that purpose were not enough.

Within a couple of days, 4 SLLI officers and other ranks discussed the projected need and decided to contribute to the worthy cause. Accordingly, the sum of money thus collected was recently handed over to him during a brief meeting the General Officer Commanding, 59 Division has had with the beneficiary at the 59 Division Headquarters.
