More than 60 Army soldiers effectively doused a raging wildfire in Thadduwan forest reserve in Oddusudan area on Tuesday (1) evening.
Troops cordoned the area and simultaneously pruned vulnerable trees and branches around to avoid contact with affected areas on the instructions of Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a gashing winds due to dry weather, was brought under control by soldiers serving 26 Gajaba Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under the 64 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaitivu.
Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces – Mullaitivu has given his blessings to the good work.
