Social Media Activists Place Their Creative Awareness Video in You Tube

Social Media campaigners this evening (2) expressing their solidarity with national tasks, being carried out by all members of the Armed Forces, Police, Doctors, Nurses, Public Health Inspectors, Health Department officials, minor staffers and all stakeholders, contributed their share by way of production of a video documentary for placing in You Tube.

Produced with the sole objective of educating and alerting the public to the dangerous transmission of COVID-19, those social media activists after meeting Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) in Rajagiriya launched the project by pasting it in the You Tube web portal.

A group of popular and leading social media activists/representatives, inclusive of Ashan Online, Nava, Ever-Loving, Janai-Priyai, Wasti, Studio Ratta, Wigadama, Travel with Wife, Chooti Malli & Podi Malli were present at the inaugural launch at the NOCPCO.

A few days ago, those activists on their own met the Military Spokesman and Director Media at the Army HQ, Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe and expressed their readiness to take on the challenge of educating the public on imminent danger of the virus, importance of health practices and self-quarantining, social distancing, etc through their medium at this critical hour of our nation while lending their artistry talents towards the government’s campaign for prevention, etc

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the NCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army, appreciative of their national consciousness and the interesting production, being a very effective mode of publicity thanked them and urged them to stand united at this critical moment to overcome this global threat as brothers and sisters of one nation. He also expressed his gratitude to officials in the Ministry of Health, Dr Ashan Pathirana of Health Education Promotion Bureau and Dr Kasun Tharaka, Convener for the Medical Students' Action Committee. Its production has been supported by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.
