SLNG’s ‘Guardians’ Mela’ Coloured with Musical Shows & Food Varieties

The annual Trade Fair and Musical Show, ‘Guardians’ Mela’ of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) got off the ground at Maligapitiya, Kurunelaga on Friday (8) for the 4th consecutive year.

The project, initiated by Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, Colonel Commandant of the SLNG, is held every year to collect funds for welfare roles of disabled SLNG War Heroes, family members of fallen SLNG War Heroes and all serving personnel. The inauguration of the first day of the project (8, September) was graced by Major General Piyal Wickramaratne as the Chief Guest.

‘Guardians’ Mela’, comprised of many trade stalls, filled with festive decorations, clothes, dry food items, essentials and other varieties turned musical to the rhythmic beats of the popular, ‘Sakura’ band as the dusk fell on the first day (8) and the band, ‘Flashback’ during the final day (9).

Mrs Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayake, Governor for North Western Province opened the Trade Fair on the final day (9) as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SLNG Colonel Commandant.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Rankers, family members of SLNG War Heroes and a large gathering of civilians witnessed the annual event during both days at Maligapitiya, Kurunegala.
