SLNG Continue Their Community Oriented Projects

TWENTY-FOURTH and fourteenth Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving the 231 Brigade conducted a series of community-oriented welfare programmes in Welikanda and Polonnaruwa areas during this week.

A stock of exercise books were distributed among students at Nagasthenna, Maithrigama, Mahasenpura and Kurulubedda schools in the area during brief ceremonies held by 14 SLNG troops. One more stock of books worth Rs. 5000 was also given away to the library at Kalinga Vidyalaya on Thursday (3). Meanwhile, the same troops conducted a tree planting campaign on both sides of the road stretch between Monarathenna village and Welikanda petrol pump junction covering a distance of about 1.5 Km. 


In the meantime, a large number of people lined up to donate blood during a blood donation campaign conducted at 24 SLNG Headquarters at Sinhapura, Welikanda. Dr. C.P Kehengama, Medical Officer at Polonnaruwa Base Hospital organized the medical part with the support of the troops.  Lieutenant Colonel D.M.A.P Dissanayake and Major Sunanda Ranasinghe took part in the programme. 


Meanwhile, 231 Brigade Headquarters organized a special seminar for students sitting the G.C.E (O/L) examination in a few days with the help of Messrs Sanath Lenora, Director, Piyumvila Programme at Department of Religious Affairs, Prasanna Lekamge and T Gem. The seminar was attended by a large number of students resident in 231 Brigade area.
