SLLI Wins Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship

The Army Inter Regiment Volleyball Tournament that was competed by players of all the Regiments drew to a close on Thursday (10) evening at the Sugathadasa Stadium amid a colourful cultural spectacle.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest watched the final encounter between Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) players, together with a host of invitees and volleyball fans.

As the final tussle reached its climax amid roaring applause from supporters of both Regimental teams, the spectators turned impatient with vigour and enthusiasm. However, beating SLAOC team, SLLI team finally emerged winners to secure the Championship.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army extending best wishes to the players gave away trophies and certificates to the winners upon the conclusion of the match.

The tournament and the final match were organized by the Army Volleyball Committee on the guidance and instructions of Major General Boniface Perera, Chairman, Army Volleyball Committee.

A large gathering of senior officers, other rankers and volleyball fans watched the final match, irrespective of inclement weather.
