SLLI Regimental Day Ceremonies End with Parade

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment marked its 28th anniversary (Regimental Day) on Monday (23) with a series of commemorative events at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda.

Brigadier M.M Kithsiri, Centre Commandant at the SLLI Headquarters warmly received the visiting Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI Major General Amal Karunasekara as the Chief Guest for anniversary programmes, on arrival at the venue where the final segment of the programme took place.

Later on, he was ushered to the main area for receipt of military honours in a Guard of Honour, accompanied by the SLLI Regimental mascot, ‘Kandula’.

As melodies of patriotic songs rent the air, the Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI as the Chief Guest for the occasion reviewed the parade upon the request of the parade commander before he received the salute.

During the parade, selected in the merits of their respective performances throughout the year, achievers in the best SLLI battalion in both Regular and Volunteer Force were awarded trophies by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment. Several other awards were also given away to the Best Platoon and the Best Platoon Commander on the merits of their achievements in their drill.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI together with senior Officers took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the SLLI Regimental monument last Saturday (21).

The Monday’s commemorative ceremony reached its end with an all rank lunch in the premises. Officers and Other Rankers together with the visiting Colonel of the Regiment shared a sumptuous lunch treat after all of them sat for a group photo.
