SLLI Regiment Immortalizes Its Eventful History

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment which gave birth to the raising of the then Ceylon Army during the colonial era, took one more leap forward on Thursday (2) and immortalized its historical saga by opening the first-ever SLLI’s monumental museum that also symbolized the evolution of the organization and also the humble beginnings of the Sri Lanka Army.

The museum, opened by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI attending a simple ceremony as the Chief Guest, displays a variety of regalia, old and historically relevant arms and weapons, photographs, uniforms, badges, insignia, combat, helmets, testimonials and honours, signal documents, Presidential Colours, Her Majesty, the Queen’s Colours and a wide assortment of paraphernalia, related to the SLLI and the organization at large.

The project which offers a brought spectrum of interests to all military researchers and the visitors alike further brings back a lot of memories of the then Ceylon Army’s role as a fighting force in the two World Wars and its gradual evolution to become a full-fledged organization, worthy of deep respect and admiration.

Director, National Archives, Ms Subha Kasthuriarachchi, Deputy Director, National Archives, Mr Senarath Wickremasinghe, senior SLLI officers and officials of the National Archives were among the participants in the day’s event.
