SLLI & GR Disable Volleyball Teams Qualify For The Finals

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Gajaba Regiment (GR) disable volleyball teams in the Army during the tournament organized by the Sri Lanka National Volleyball Federation for the Disable for selection of the best teams, qualified for the final round to be played on 25th February.

The weekend tournament at Hanwella Western Sports Club ground was competed by nine Army teams and the Western Sports Academy for the S.M Chandrasena Challenge Trophy.

A recent discussion that took place between Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Mr S.M Chandrasena and Major General E.P. De Z Abeysekara resulted in the founding of the Sri Lanka National Volleyball Federation for the Disable. Its establishment facilitates the participation of all island-wide disable volleyball sportsmen and teams for the national level events.

A team of 30 volleyball players was selected during this tournament to represent the national pool since the game among the disable has become popular. A separate team to attend the World Trophy tournament in Cambodia during June this year, is to be selected shortly.

The final tussle between the SLLI team and the GR team will take place on 25th February at Maharagama National Youth Council Auditorium grounds.
