SLAMC Contingent in South Sudan Receives UN Commendation Medals

Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) staff serving the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Level II Hospital were awarded UN Peacekeeping Medals on Wednesday (27) during a simple ceremony in South Sudan.

UN Peace Keeping Force Commander, Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Thinaikar attended as the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented those UN Medals, appreciative of the SLAMC’s service in this hospital. At present, 16 Officers and 50 Other Ranks are serving the UNMISS commanded by Lieutenant Colonel S.L.S Kumarage, Commanding Officer, SLAMC contingent.

Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Thinaikar and Head of the UN South Sudan Operation Office Miss Deborah Gwen Schein spoke high of the SLAMC’s medical standards, treatment and commitment and recognized the SLAMC’s strong contribution to hospital services in this conflict-affected South Sudan. The Sri Lankan contingent has been serving the UNMISS since 3 July 2019.
