SLAC Basketball Players Clinch Tournament Championship


Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Basketball team in the Inter Regiment Basketball Championship Tournament - 2012, just ended, emerged Champions, trouncing all other sixteen Regimental teams.

Basketball Championship Tournament - 2012 of the Army commenced on July 10 and continued until the final day (July 20) with the participation of seventeen Men’s teams and two Women’s teams (Sri Lanka Military Police women’s team and Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps team) under four categories.

Finals between SLAC basketballers and their rival Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC), saw SLAC beat SLAGSC by 72 - 63 points as the match drew to a close at the Panagoda SLAGSC basketball court. Third place in the tournament went to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment team.

In the women’s category, Sri Lanka Military Police players emerged winners with 62 - 57 points against their counterparts, Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps team.

A packed gathering of basketball fans and spectators, including Sri Lanka’s National Coach, Mr Ajith Kuruppu and Secretary, National Basketball Federation, Mr C. Liyanage, Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Major General S.K Weerasinghe, Major General S.R Manawadu and several other senior officers, witnessed the finals at Panagoda on Friday (20).

Major General Crishantha de Silva, Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Engineers, attending the final tussle as the Chief Guest gave away the Championship trophy and other merit awards to the runners-up in the tournament.
