Finals and the prize awarding ceremony of the Army Inter Regiment Wrestling Tournament - 2018 that got off the ground under the close supervision of Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, Chairman, Army Wrestling Committee concluded on Wednesday (28) at Panagoda gymnasium, amid a gathering of wrestling fans.
A total of 9 Regimental teams, comprised of hundreds of male and female wrestlers competed for supremacy in the three-day (26-28 February) tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Committee to be in conformity with rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka Wrestling Association and the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA).
National level referees and judges contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament.
Major General Rukmal Dias, Commander Security Forces – Central and Colonel Commandant, Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) at the invitation of Army Wrestling committee graced the finals as the Chief Guest and gave away medals to the best of the best in the tournament.
Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) wrestlers who secured 5 Gold and 1 Bronze medals were adjudged as Champions while Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) were declared the runners-up with 7 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, Chairman, Army Wrestling Committee, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks took part in the event.
