Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) which has already launched one of its unique community-oriented projects, ‘Piyawara’ in the Wanni, benefiting more than 400 pre-school kids in Vavuniya and Anuradhapura Districts, made a milestone in its continuing project and commenced the construction of the 8th pre-school in the remote general area of Alagalla, close to Iratta in the Anuradhapura District as per directions of the pioneering force behind the task, Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni.
Major General Perera taking a personal interest in promoting pre-childhood education in under-developed remote areas in the Wanni in close collaboration with Mrs Shiromi Masakorala, Executive Director, Hemas Outreach Foundation / General Manager Communications and Sustainable Development has so far got 7 pre-schools opened in the Wanni region in less than 15 months.
SFHQ-W troops under the guidance of the Wanni Commander offered their engineering and technical expertise and completed the construction of 7 such pre-schools with raw materials and sponsorship, provided by the Hemas Outreach Foundation in liaison with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and Dry Zone Development.
The cornerstone-laying ceremony for construction of the 8th pre-school in Alagalla took place on Sunday (24) with the participation of Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, SF-W as the Chief Guest, together with Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, representatives of Hemas Outreach Foundation, state officials and a few other Senior Officers.
