SFHQ-MLT Initiates Sewing Training for New Garment Industry Openings

A training centre for sewing to potential 35 woman employees who had been selected to work in the proposed Hirdaramani apparel factory at Mullaittivu, was set up at the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) premises with the objective of supporting the proposed project.
 
Following initiatives, taken by the SFHQ-MLT, Hirdaramani Pvt Ltd with the intention of providing employment to some 350 women, interested in garment industry, expects to install 150 sewing machines under the first phase of the project and 100 more afterwards by July 2015.
 
As recent as June 2, this year, the SFHQ-MLT facilitated the conduct of initial interviews for recruitment of 35 Tamil women to work as garment employees with a basic salary of Rs 10,500/= during the training period. Similarly, transport and meal facilities have been organized free of charge to those trainees while undergoing training.
 
The inaugural ceremony of the sewing training centre took place on Thursday (19) with the participation of Mr Tony Nadaraja, Chief Executive Officer, Hirdaramani Pvt Ltd and Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, SFHQ-MLT as Chief Guests.
 
The two-month long training in this sphere, conducted by the Army with expertise from both civil sector and Army professionals will thus open new sources of income to the unemployed females in the area.
