SFHQ-KLN Troops Enlightened on Mount Everest Experiences

Mountain climbers, Ms Jayanthi Kuru-utumpala and Mr. Johann Peiris shared their experiences on ‘Reaching the Summit Mt. Everest’ with Officers and Other Ranks serving the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) during two separate lectures held at the SFHQ-KLN auditorium and ‘Nelumpiyasa’ auditorium respectively on Friday (23).

Ms Kuru-utumpala is the first Asian woman and the first Sri Lankan woman to reach the summit Mt. Everest.

One hour session at the SFHQ-KLN auditorium for Officers and another one hour session for Other Rankers got underway at ‘Nelumpiyasa’ auditorium on Friday (23). This inspirational lecture session and the subsequent discussion gave an opportunity for Officers and Other Ranks to discover new ideas beyond their call of duty.

This programme was put into effect on a proposal made by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN).

Around 150 Officers and 670 Other Ranks participated. At the end of the session, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-KLN, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayaka presented mementos to Ms Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala and Mr. Johann Peiris as gestures of appreciation.
