SFHQ-J Supports Janahanda Foundation’s Charity Work for Children

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) joined the members of the ‘Hounslow Sri Lankan Janahanda Foundation’ in UK to provide scholarships for 50 students selected from destitute families who needed financial assistance to continue with their education on Sunday (21) at SFHQ-J auditorium.

Those 50 scholarships were arranged by the SFHQ-J in collaboration with the ‘Hounslow Sri Lankan Janahanda Foundation’ based in the UK in close consultation with Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna.

Each student under this programme receives Rs. 5000.00 monthly for a period of five years beginning 2018. These 50 scholarships went to most deserving 50 students in the Jaffna peninsula.

In response to a request made by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Mr Sri Lal Dias, President of the foundation, sponsored the scholarship programme.

The event at the SFHQ-J auditorium was aimed at raising the standards of education among poor students in the Northern Province with the intention of creating a harmonious society where everyone could live in peace.

During the same ceremony, Mr. Mohan Shankar, Director Oman Lanka Pvt. Ltd and Mrs Wadani Shankar, Director People’s Care of Lanka (Pvt) Ltd offered fifteen more scholarships to another group of 15 deserving students in the Jaffna area, through which each student would get a monthly incentive of Rs. 3500.00 for a period of five year.

Earlier, the same group of sponsors gave away 10 scholarships to needy students in the Pungudathive Maha Vidyalaya in close coordination with Mrs. Swineetha Weerasinghe, veteran actress and Mr. Nandalal Malagoda, Senior Lecturer University of Kelaniya.

Military Officers, Students, parents and teachers attended the ceremony.
