SF-KLN Troops Educated on ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ Training

The certificate awarding ceremony of the 1st and 2nd courses, Green and Yellow belt of ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ held for troops got underway on Thursday (11) at ‘Nelum Piyasa’ auditorium in Kilinochchi.

The objectives of the course were to train soldiers for self-defence, act for emergencies and provide situational management training.

The first ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ course commenced on 18 October 2017 for Riot Control platoons of the 57 Division.

4 Officers and 150 Other Ranks from 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 17 (V) Gajaba Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard successfully completed four stages of the Course and Grade 7 of ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ course to qualify for the Green Belt.

In the second course, 8 Officers and 224 Other Ranks from 57, 65 and 66 Divisions successfully completed stage one (1) and two (2) and qualified in 8 Grade of ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ to wear the Yellow Belt .

The Chief Instructor of ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ and the President of World Kickboxing Federation (WKBF), Chief Instructor of Sri Lanka Army Karate Association Mr. Shihan Clement de Zoysa Black Belt 8 DAN, with a team of instructors of the Sri Lanka Army Karate Association and members of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Karate team assisted the training programme.

Four attractive ‘Kiyoshi Ryu Budo’ demonstrations were demonstrated before the spectators in order to showcase the standards and capabilities of trained soldiers.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Major General Jagath Gunawardena.

General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana and Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi, Brigadier H.G.I Vidyananda attended the event.

All Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers under the SFHQ-KLN were present.

General Officer Commanding, 57 Division presented a memento to Mr. Shihan Clement de Zoysa in appreciating his contribution to the training.
