Seva Vanitha Takes Art Workshop to Mullaittivu

The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), taking its children-oriented aesthetic assignments into remote areas, away from Colombo, had its first full-day ‘Workshop for Arts’ for 125 Tamil children of Mullaittivu area on Saturday (9).  

The programme, initiated by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB with the intention of promoting notions of co-existence and harmony among children of all ethnicities, was attended by most veteran artists, like Mr S.H. Sarath and Mr Rienzi Fernando, in the company of a gathering of Viru Daru Society representatives of its Executive Committee and peripheral units, senior SVAB members, several Regimental Seva Vanitha Unit chairpersons and Army officers.  

Ms Deshani Jayasuriya, Chairperson, Virudaru Society was also associated with the event.

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest on the occasion was welcomed at the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) and conducted to the venue for inauguration of the workshop.

Selection of those 125 Tamil children from different schools was done in consultation with educational authorities, respective principals, teachers and parents with the coordination done by SFHQ-MLT.

Veteran artists, Mr S.H Sarath and Mr Rienzi Fernando took a personal interest in the project at the invitation of the SVAB and guided students attending the workshop with much enthusiasm and interest.

At the end of the day’s arrangement, those attendees were given gift parcels, organized by the SVAB.  

The SVAB has been in the practice of launching these types of workshops in a few more areas where the SVAB run pre-schools are operating. A few months ago, a similar workshop took place in Narahenpita.
