This year’s ‘Rana Aruna Udanaya’ New Year fair of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), designed to raise funds for the welfare of disable War Heroes and families of fallen War Heroes, is to be held at Panagoda Army cantonment school grounds during April 7-8, 2012.
The fair offers a great variety of food commodities, ready-made garments, spices and almost all the essentials, associated with the forthcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival for sale. The fair, a proposal mooted by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, Chairperson, SVAB will remain open to the public from 9.00 a.m. until 11.00 p.m. on both days.
Different variety entertainments with the participation of popular music bands, vocalists and artistes, including programmes for children, will provide amusement to visitors to the fair on both days starting from 7.00 p.m.
Proceeds generated from the sales in the fair are to be used for War Hero welfare projects such as house constructions, erection of sanitary facilities to suit disability, purchase of artificial legs and limbs, grant of scholarships to children of War Heroes, etc.
