Seva Vanitha's 'Yoghurt' Production Project Launched

The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), currently engaged in a variety of welfare activities on behalf of disable War Heroes and their families, inaugurated its newest pet project, ‘Yoghurt’ production on Thursday (29) during a ceremony at Panagoda Army Cantonment.

Mrs Neluka Dissanayake, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Branch who eagerly directed Army personnel to receive necessary Navy training in this industry, at the request of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Under the new project, the Army is able to produce its own requirement of ‘Yoghurt’ per day and capable of supplying it to the external market, if approached. The ceremony got off to a start after religious observances, conducted by members of the Maha Sangha present at the new building.

As the auspicious minute struck, the Chief Guest Mrs Neluka Dissanayake unveiled a plaque and opened the new building where production is done on a mass scale. The traditional oil lamp lighting marked the beginning of the proceedings.

A set of sophisticated machinery and modern equipment, brought exclusively for this purpose by the SVAB enable the workers to produce as many as some 3000-3500 Yoghurt cups a day.

Sailors in the Navy who are already in the process of producing ‘Yoghurt’ trained their brother-Army personnel as a result of the initiatives taken by Mrs Dissanayake at the request of Mrs Jayasuriya, eagerly bent on finding much-needed funds for SVAB welfare projects.

Mrs Jayasuriya, appreciative of Mrs Dissanayake’s contribution towards the inauguration of the ‘Yoghurt’ production in the Army, presented her with a symbolic memento during the ceremony and thanked her for all the support.

A symbolic demonstration, presented by the Army personnel at the factory on the same occasion, gave the invitees an overall knowledge of the production process.

Proceeds of this project are also to be used for the ongoing Brave Hearts project and the SVAB’s house construction work for disable War Heroes and Army families.
