Service Corps Boxer Emerges Winner

THE INTER Regiment Army Boxing Tournament, an enthusiastic annual event among both Army officers and soldiers alike got underway at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium during March 29, 30 and 31.

Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, recording 28 points emerged victorious in the final tournament and 2nd and 3rd places went to Gajaba Regiment (20 points) and Sri Lanka Artillery boxers (17 points) respectively. Gunner R.M.R.G Ratnayake, Sri Lanka Artillery was adjudged the Best Boxer. Private S.M.R.S Samaraweera, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps lost the place by 1 point, becoming himself as the Best Loser.

 Record 90 Boxers from 13 Army Regiments vied in the tournament.

Major General S.W.L Daulagala, Commander, Security Forces, South, gracing the final stage as Chief Guest gave away trophies to the winners on the invitation of Brigadier G.R.H Dias, Chairman, Army Boxing Association (ABA). The secretary to the ABA, Major J.I.B.W Pallekumbura and a large gathering of Army Officers, Other Ranks and Boxing fans witnessed the final tussle.
