Fulfilling a long-felt requirement of the School of Signals at Kandy, a new Self-Training Lab came up at the school premises, further enhancing training facilities for professional signallers in the Regiment.

At the invitation of the Commandant, School of Signals, Colonel Sugath Ratnayake, Chief Signal Officer, Director General of Centre for Research and Development and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General K.R.P Rowel declared opened the lab on Sunday (07).

Having listened to briefings conducted by instructors on self-learning aid in the lab, Major General K.R.P Rowel addressed officers and other ranks of the school before he joined an all rank tea party.

The school annually conducts a range of training programmes for Signalers and soldiers of other Regiments as well.

This new lab that has been established in the Self Training Area, would help augment quality of training and create more freedom for students to practically engage in self-learning using respective equipment.

It provides guidance to learn about daily mail system, High Frequency (HF) and Very High Frequency (VHF) radio, battery charging, generators, line laying and cabling, electronic warfare equipment, multimedia, telephone exchange and computer networking, etc. on their own following instructions displayed in the lab which facilitates about 15 students at a time.

Officers and other ranks of the school attended the day’s event.
