Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi Marks Its Anniversary with Many Programmes

Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) recently celebrated its 8th birth anniversary with a series of elaborate programmes, based on the theme, ‘Victory Through Commitment, Dedication, Sacrifice & Professionalism’.

Those anniversary arrangements, launched on the instructions of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi included religious observances, blood donation, military parade, tree planting, opening of the new cafeteria and the welfare shop, all rank dinner and a musical evening.

The programme got to a start with the conduct of the ‘Herculean Competition’ in order to select the battalion with strongest Army members, held at Paravipanchan Public Playground on 22 June. 24 Gemunu Watch battalion serving under the SFHQ-KLN was adjudged the best team, tested through physical fitness and skills.

The religious segment with an overnight Pirith chanting ceremony, preceded by a colourful procession ended with an alms-giving, the following day. Religious observances at Kankagambigai Amman Kovil (Hindu), Catholic Mass at St Theresa’s Church at Kilinochchi and Islamic prayers invoked blessings on the SFHQ-KLN during separate religious programmes.

The following day (24) more than 40 Officers and Other Rankers donated their blood to the Kilinochchi District Hospital for the benefit of patients lying there.

The apex of the programmes, the formal military salute and the parade took place on 29 June after Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, SF-KLN arrived there as the Chief Guest for the day. A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour, Planting of a mango sapling, Taking of a group photo and other military formalities as well as the opening of the newly-built cafeteria and the welfare shop for Army personnel serving the SFHQ-KLN on the same occasion, added more importance to the chain of anniversary arrangements.

After an All Rank dinner on the exact anniversary day (29 June), a mega musical event in the SFHQ-KLN premises entertained the troops until late in the evening, bringing anniversary commemorative programmes to end.
