Secretary Defence Shows Keen Interest Visiting Army Stalls

On the eve of the National Independence Day ceremony at Kataragama, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, now in Kataragama, took time off to visit the Buttala ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition site Thursday (3) afternoon, hours before its formal opening.

Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders, Inspector General of Police and senior officers received the visiting Secretary Defence on arrival and conducted him to show around exhibition stalls that have been put up by Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force.

Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, President, Seva Vanitha, Ministry of Defence was also associated with the visit to the site.

It was evident that Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa was very much impressed with Army exhibits on display and shared views with the accompanying Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and those who were in charge of those stalls. He later on visited Navy, Air Force and Police exhibition stalls separately and made inquiries into various aspects of the exhibits and their operational capabilities.

Mr Rajapaksa and Mrs Rajapaksa are expected to grace the National Independence Day ceremonies at Kataragama on Friday (4). Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch also visited the site around the same time.

Meanwhile, Minister of Economic Development, Mr Basil Rajapaksa (MP) and Chief Minister for Uva Province Mr Shashindra Rajapaksa also visited the exhibition site on Thursday (3).
