Second Triathlon Competition Attracts Public Attention

The inauguration of the second triathlon game competition of the Army, covering the athletic spheres of Swimming, Cycling and Running took place on Saturday (1) near the banks of the Chandrika Lake at Embilipitiya.

The tripartite competition, organized by the Army Athletic Committee, chaired by Major General Amal Karunasekara on the directions given by the Commander of the Army, includes the 750 m swimming event, 20 km cycling event and the 5 km running event for both men and women soldiers, numbering over 100 in more than 10 Regiments of the Army.

The competition was organized with a view to moulding a distinctive team of sportsmen and women for the Army sports pool to secure challenges of any future eventualities in the sport arena.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chairman, Army Athletic Committee graced the sports event as the Chief Guest and was welcomed by Brigadier Chandana Ranaweera, Secretary to the Army Athletic Committee at the commencement of the sports event.

Championship of the event went to the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment and the runners-up were the Sri Lanka Engineers and Mechanized Infantry regiment.
