Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) with the objective of supporting families of SFHQ-KLN troops, launched a programme to award scholarships to 100 children of Army families, thanks to financial support, given by Mr Ricky Weerasinghe of Malaysia.
The event took place on Sunday (6) on the directions of the Commander, SFHQ-KLN. Each recipient received a cheque to the value of Rs 2,000/= for purchase of books, in addition to gift items expected to be donated to those children by the bank in the area.
These scholarships, each worth Rs 10,000/= will cover expenses of the studies of those children until they enter Grade 10 level in respective schools.
7 Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment Commanding Officer organized the event with the participation of Brigade Commanders serving the area.
Meanwhile, SFHQ-KLN distributed a stock of school books, provided by ‘Gospel for Asia’ among poor school children in the 651 Brigade Headquarters during a simple ceremony at Mulankavil Madya Maha Vidyalaya.
More than 131 students of the school received these gifts on the occasion, attended by Rev Vandervoll, 651 Brigade Commander and a few others.
11 (v) Gajaba Regiment troops organized the event after selecting the most wanted children in the area.
