Sappers Salute Their 8th Chief of Staff at Their Regimental Headquarters

Troops of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) during a formal ceremony presented military honours and warm greetings to the newly-appointed Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army, Major General Mahesh Senanayake at the SLE Regimental Headquarters when he paid a courtesy call to his mother Regiment at Panagoda for the first time after he assumed new office on Tuesday (4).

Major General Mahesh Senanayake upon arrival at the Regimental Headquarters entrance was warmly welcomed by Brigadier Nishantha Herath, SLE Centre Commandant and received the Guard Turnout as a military formality.

Paying due respect to the memory of fallen SLE War Heroes, the visiting eighth Chief of Staff, produced by the SLE, placed a floral wreath at the foot of the SLE memorial in the premises then and recalled memories of their unmatched sacrifices.

Minutes after that, the customary Guard of Honour was reviewed by the day’s Chief Guest, together with the Parade Commander before the salute.

A few minutes later, the Chief Guest for the day was invited to partake of tea and refreshments in the company of All Ranks at the Utility Building in the Regimental Headquarters premises.

A large gathering of Sapper Officers, all Regimental Sergeant Majors and Other Ranks were present for the day’s event.
