Retiring Commandant SLAVF, Major General Ruwan Wanigasoriya’s Service Hailed

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on Friday (23) extended his best wishes to retiring Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, one more proud soldier of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) after inviting him to the Army Headquarters on the eve of the latter’s retirement from the Army.

The Army Chief during the cordial interaction commended his dedicated services to the Army for more than three decades and shared a few thoughts with the retiring Major General Ruwan Wanigasoriya who has also served a number of key appointments in the Army including the Director, Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, Military Spokesman, Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Director (Training and Coordination – Defence), Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Director/ Spokesman, Media Centre, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Director (Operations), Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Chief Instructor, Defence Services Command and Staff College, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna and Colonel Commandant, SLA,

The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while mentioning about the encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation.
