Resettled People Now Have Access to Religious Offerings

Resettled people in remote Bogaswewa area, hitherto remained without a proper place of worship for offerings, spiritual solace and development, got three Buddha statues erected in dilapidated temples with the financial and technical support, extended by Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, MP, and the construction support of 56 Division troops in Vavuniya.

All those three ancient Buddhist temples, which remained dilapidated and unattended sans statues or Buddhist monks for over 30 years due to destructive terrorist activities, received revival with the recent resettlement of the displaced in their former places of residence in Bogaswewa area.

56 Division troops on the directions of its General Officer Commanding constructed these three Buddha statues of 8 ft and 6 inches each in height inside these three Buddhist places of worship in the area with the funds, allocated by Mr Namal Rajapaksa. Each statue cost Rs. 5 lakhs for raw materials and architecture.

Mr Rajapaksa on Thursday (7) during three separate Daham Hamuwa meetings unveiled these three statues for veneration after making maiden offerings. Major General Boniface Perera, Security Force Commander - Wanni, senior officers, state officials and large gatherings of people witnessed the opening ceremonies.
