Religious Ceremony Held to Transfer Merits to Late Senior Officer

A newly-built monastery for the use of resident monks at Sulugulu Viharaya, Anuradhapura in memory of late Major General S.R Manawaduge was invested in the monks on Saturday (27) during a brief religious ceremony.    

The construction of the new monastery wing, sponsored by bereaved family members, Mrs Manawaduge and her three children, was given the full support by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W).

During the brief religious ceremony, the monks commemorated the memory of late Major General Manawaduge and transferred merits to him and prayed for his attainment of Nirvana. The wife and three children of Major General S.R Manawaduge planted a sandalwood sapling at the temple premises and added symbolic memories on the same occasion.

A Bodhi Pooja Pinkama, held at the same premises again invoked merits and blessed the Army and the country, the same evening. Towards the end of the day’s programme, a free eatery (Dansela) was conducted close to the temple premises for distribution of cooked food among pilgrims and members of the public.

Major General Boniface Perera and several senior officers serving Anuradhapura area attended those events.
