Rehabilitated LTTE Families Offered Incentives

In what could be considered  as another community project, troops of the 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 27 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) jointly organized the distribution of farming utilities among needy Ichchalanpattu farmers, following sponsorship given by Mr. Upul Padmalal, a businessman in Australia.

The distribution ceremony at Sampaha Maha Vidyalaya, Echchalanpattu on Wednesday (8) saw 4 cattle, 2 sewing machines, 15 push bicycles and 60 mammoties, distributed among rehabilitated former ‘Mahaviru’ families, now resettled in those areas, served by the 222 Brigade.

Mr. Upul Padmalal also offered a scholarship, worth of Rs.1500.00 every month to a Grade 5 student at Sampaha Maha Vidyalaya and agreed to donate uniforms to the Western Band at Sampaha Maha Vidyalaya in response to a request of the Head Prefect in the school.

K.A.D Weerasinghe (Pvt) Ltd, a company, engaged in a water supply project in Ichchalampattu area at the same occasion offered employment openings for 10 unemployed young men including those from rehabilitated families.

Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E has given blessings for these projects and Brigadier A.M.R Dharmasiri, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division was instrumental in implementing them.  

The donations were coordinated by Colonel M.R.K.W.B Pinnawala, Brigade Commander, 222 Brigade in close cooperation with troops serving the areas.
