Rehabilitated Former LTTE Youngsters Back Home

NINETEEN youth and six children, formerly worked for the LTTE and contributed to LTTE terrorist acts received complete rehabilitation and walked back to their parents on Sunday (24) after their rehabilitation process at Thelippalai Rehabilitation Center culminated successfully.

Those youth sought the protection of the armed forces during the peak of Wanni humanitarian operations after realizing the vanity of the LTTE brutality and its violence.

Those youngsters after their surrender to the Army received near one-year training in information technology, plumbing, electric work, carpentry, sewing, mason work, welding, metal work, designing, etc at the Rehabilitation Center, Thelippalai, Jaffna. Special experts in respective spheres assisted the programme, supported and continued with the support of the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna. All of them on completion of the programme were awarded a special certificate on their professional capabilities and merits.

The ceremony to hand them over to their next of kin took place at the Rehabilitation Center on Sunday (24). Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, acting Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna and Commander, Security Forces, Kilinochchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Chairman, Hindu Congress, senior Army Officers at the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters, Coordinating officers for Rehabilitation Center programmes, parents and close relatives of the rehabilitated youngsters participated in the ceremony.
