Reconciliation Football Match Draws Huge Crowds

A friendly football match organized by the 224 Brigade Headquarters of the 22 Division was played between the teams of 22 Division and Muttur League at Muttur Central College grounds on Thursday (15), intending to further promote good relations and understanding among all ethnic groups and motivate the youth in the area.

Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division took the initiative in this regard under the guidance of Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces – East (SF-E). The cordial match was arranged by the Brigade Commander, 224 Brigade, Colonel P Ediriweera with the cooperation of civil sector sportsmen.

A large gathering of civil and military personnel witnessed the exciting match with enthusiasm. After a close encounter, the 22 Division football team won the match with 3 - 0 against its rival, Muttur League.

The Chief Guest to the occasion, GOC, 22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara and other invitees gave away trophies and certificates to both teams and extended best wishes at the end of the match.

A Kandyan dancing team of the 15 SLLI entertained the gathering while the match was in progress.
