Ranaviru Month (May 19 - June 19) Inaugurated

May 19 to June 19 was declared Ranaviru month and simultaneously the first Ranaviru flag was pinned on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (19). The daughter of War Hero, A. Weerasinghe who was honoured with the Weera Prathapa Jathika Sammana and Ranawickrema complementary badge and Mallika Jayawardena, staff sergeant in the first Women’s Regiment of the Army pinned the first Ranaviru flag on the President. Proceeds from the sale of Ranaviru flags last year amounting to Rs 3.5 million were handed over to President Rajapaksa by Provincial Council Governors.

This money is due to be used by the War Heroes Authority for War Heroes’ welfare. Provincial governors were entrusted with the task of selling this year’s Ranaviru flags. Provincial governors Western Provincial Council chief minister Prassanna Ranatunge, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commanders of Security Forces, Ranaviru Seva Authority Chairperson Padma Wettawa and Media Centre for National Security Director General Lakshman Hulugalle also participated.
