Public Alerted to Menace of 'Drugs'


With the coordination and support of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), 23 Division Headquarters in Punani, 5 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps Headquarters in Habarana and 24 Division Headquarters in Ampara organized a series of preventive and awareness programmes on ‘Drugs’ during the past two weeks.

National Dangerous Drugs Control Board in response to a request of the Directorate of Psychological Operations of the Army made Specialists and Lecturers available for the programmes which were attended by a large gathering of youngsters.

Meanwhile, 232 Brigade of the 23 Division with the objective of making people aware of good health habits and agriculture conducted an exhibition and a medical camp where people were examined for health problems.

Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya supported the conduct of those events and a group of 12 Sri Lanka Artillery and 8 Sri Lanka National Guard troops participated in the event.

In the meantime, 12 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 242 Brigade under the 24 Division Headquarters, 6 Sri Lanka Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops of 221 Brigade of 22 Division organized self-help cleaning projects (Shramadana) at Vinayagapuram Shakthi Vidyalam in Thirukkovil, Pichchamal Viharaya in Kuchchaweli and Sai pre-school premises in Kumburupiddy, in order to get rid of garbage in those areas as precautions against spread of Dengue.

Commander, SFHQ-E, Major General Janaka Walgama has given blessings to those projects in the East.
