A PRESENTATION of ‘Poson’ devotional songs, coloured with symbolic events of historic importance was staged at Army Headquarters ground by Army personnel on Monday (21) evening before a galaxy of distinguished guests, including HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe, et al.
The colourful evening, organized by the Army on the directives given by Commander of the Army, included the symbolic depiction of the arrival of Ven Mihindu Thero, Therani Sangamitta in Sri Lanka, and a series of ancient royal traditions and different sagas. Cultural troupes of the Army added their voice to the occasion reciting devotional songs that were associated with Poson, Buddhist rites and rituals, patriotic sentiments, etc.
All former Army Commanders as well as their spouses graced the occasion as invitees. President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch, Chief of Staff at Presidential Secretariat Mr Gamini Senarath and a host of other guests enjoyed the evening.
A large gathering of disable War Heroes had also been invited to the entertainment. Senior Army, Navy, Air Force and Police officers were also among the invitees.
