HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the conceptual architect of the ‘Deyata Kirula’ mega development exhibition that mirrors Sri Lanka’s post-conflict rejuvenation, ceremonially opened the 8th ‘Deyata Kirula - 2014’ at Kuliyapitiya Friday (21) evening, amidst a sea of heads, eagerly awaiting to visit the site exhibits.
First Lady Ms. Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, Senior Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Additional Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Secretaries, District Secretaries, Tri-service Commanders, Inspector General of the Police, Ms. Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Unit and a host of other state officials, diplomats were among the distinguished guests present at the opening.
Sri Lanka Army as in previous years, has contributed to the event by erecting more than two dozen of spacious stalls in the compound, considering the mega popularity it would draw in parallel to other sites as evidenced before.
Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, hours before the grand opening, had a look at all Army exhibits to ensure that everything is in perfect order.
Giving last-minute on the spot directions, the Commander, taking a personal interest in order to make Army exhibits to be the best crowd-puller and attractive spectacle of the highest quality and entertainment, spoke to those in charge of separate stalls, erected by the Army.
He also wanted all ranks working on the site to ensure the public pass by exhibits without being subject to any inconvenience or congestion since the exhibition would attract massive crowds beginning Friday.
Coinciding with the main opening, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake opened Army Exhibits around the same time, enabling the public to view the exhibits with less inconvenience and at close range.
Covering an extent of more than 150 acres, the Exhibition will continue until February 28, with its more than 600 stalls, put up by tri-services, state sector agencies, departments, corporations and several semi-government sector organizations.
Sri Lanka Army’s contribution to the event every year adds a thrilling and educative experience as Army exhibitors take extraordinary efforts to explain the visitors about new military hardware, equipment and technologies, in some cases, even showcasing their participation through physical demonstrations.
