President, Chief Guest at KDU Convocation

The 26th General Convocation of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) Wednesday (02).

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena attended the event as the chief guest.

Hon. Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Minister of Regional Development, Hon. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Minister of Justice and Minister of Buddhasasana and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi were also present at the occasion.

During the Convocation 166 post graduates and 542 graduates including officers of 29th and 30th KDU Intakes received their Doctoral, Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Defence Studies, Management, Business Management, Law, Medicine, Engineering, Logistics Management and Technical Sciences, Social Sciences, Military Studies and Aviation Studies.

Lieutenant W.K.K Meepagala of Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) of Intake 29 was awarded the Sword of Honour for the best all round performance and Best Student of the Sri Lanka Army.

The Vice Chancellor of the KDU Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe presented a memento to the President to mark the occasion.

Chancellor of the KDU, Admiral Daya Sandagiri, Ambassadors, University Chancellors, Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy commanders, academic and non-academic staff, Ministry of Defence officials, senior military officers, distinguished invitees and parents were also present at the occasion.
