President Assures Continued Welfare Support to Final Batch of Resettled Mullaittivu People

HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Tuesday (25) afternoon saw for himself how the final batch of displaced people has been resettled in their original places of residence in Mullaittivu, bringing the question of resettlement to a total completion.

President Rajapaksa addressing those returnees at Vellamullivaikkal, Mullaittivu said that the Army which has done much in the sphere of re-construction, would do its best for the welfare of resettled people and promotion of their living standards as early as possible. Directions for such continued work have already been given, he said.

‘Some segments are trying to confuse you and distort your problems and issues for their own advantage and personal gains. You must not be deceived and those people want their survival upon these questions. Our government is fully committed to provide all assistance to fisher folk, farmers and all other segments of society. Employment to the jobless and education to your children are also on our priority list. You must be able to tell those segments that they should instead give you assistance, without pushing you further into difficulty. Our government has planned a better future for the people living in these areas. Without falling into prey, you must always give priority to your senses and wisdom before decisions are taken’, President Rajapaksa added.

On Monday (24), 110 families and 251 families, vacating the Manik Farm Relief Village in Vavuniya moved into Theppavil and Manduvil areas in Vellmullivaikkal, Mullaittivu for permanent residence after bringing the much - vexed question of resettlement to a close.

President Rajapaksa, attending a series of opening ceremonies and inauguration of different development projects in both Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts on Tuesday (25) unveiled a plaque and opened the new Mullaittivu District Secretariat complex, enabling the decentralized machine of state administration to deliver in a much productive and efficient manner.

At the invitation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the President Rajapaksa unveiled a plaque and declared open the new holiday bungalow complex for all ranks at the Security Forces Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT). Giving a historic memory to the occasion the President planted a tree sapling in the complex on the same occasion. Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, SFHQ-MLT was also presented at the occasion.

Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa, prior to his arrival in Mullaittivu opened the new supermarket complex and the power transmission centre at Kilinochchi in the company of several Ministers, Parliamentarians, Governors, District Secretaries, Commander of the Army, Inspector General of the Police, Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi. 

Secretary to President Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Ministers, Hon Namal Rajapaksa (MP), Parliamentarians, Governors, Commander of the Army, Inspector General of Police, District Secretaries and a host of state officials Senior Military Officers and Civilians attended the ceremonies at Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu.
