Offering guidance and support to the promotion of cricket among young cricketers in the eastern part of the country, Komari-based 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops under the 242 Brigade Headquarters of the 24 Division, got several cricket teams from schools in the province to play together for a tournament in Pottuvil early last week.
School cricketers from Methodist Maha Vidyalaya in Thirukkovil, Lahugala Maha Vidyalaya and Madawela Maha Vidyalaya and Methodist Maha Vidyalaya battled it out for supremacy in the tournament.
The final match brought victory to the Methodist Maha Vidyalaya team which played very prominently against their rivals throughout the tournament.
Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners and participating teams at the end of the day’s event.
A large gathering of fellow school students and teachers watched the tournament with enthusiasm.
