Pinnacle of Army Vesak Arrangements, ‘Inginalu Samagin Vesak Bethi Gee’ Fascinate Invitees at Nelum Pokuna

Sri Lanka Army on Tuesday (16) bringing its Vesak arrangements to a pinnacle, staged its state-of-the-art masterpiece, ‘Inginalu Samagin Vesak Bethi Gee’ (Vesak devotional songs with balletic gestures) at Nelum Pokuna theatre before a distinguished gathering of invitees, headed by Mr P.B Abeykoon, Secretary to HE the President as the Chief Guest, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, Mrs P.B Abeykoon, the spouse of the Secretary to HE the President and Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

The colourful and glittering spectacle, considered as one of the most fitting tributes to coincide with the UN Vesak Day commemoration in Sri Lanka and the National Vesak festival, for which thousands of Army personnel threw their full weight behind in the past few weeks, has been choreographed by professional artistes in the Directorate of Army Band and Performing Arts under the close supervision of the Adjutant General’s office at the Army Headquarters.

A team of 150 performing ballet dancers, 40 vocalists, along with a 40-member music orchestra of the highest standards added their rhythmic steps to the spectacular event, in which phenomenal life stages of the Buddha were articulated through balletic symbols to the tune of soothing melodies.

The event, designed on a conceptual notion of the Commander of the Army lined up partly the Birth, Enlightenment and the Parinibbana (passing away) of the Buddha, and a series of ancient royal traditions and different life story sagas. In addition, members of the Army cultural troupe and singers beautified the flow of the main balletic performance during the course of the spectacle.

Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army welcomed Mr P.B Abeykoon, Secretary to HE the President as the Chief Guest on arrival at the premises.

A large gathering of disabled War Heroes also together with Eng Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary Defence, Mr. Jagath P Wijeweera, Secretary to the Minister of Law & Order and Prison Reforms, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, Commander of the Air Force, Mr Pujith Jayasundara, Inspector General of Police, Senior Army, Navy, Air Force, Police Officers and invitees witnessed the creative spectacle that reminded the rich Buddhist cultural heritage.
