Philanthropist Gifts New House to Dependent War Hero

The dependent War Hero, Corporal D.G.N.R Karunaratne receiving rehabilitation and treatment at Pangolla ‘Abhimansala - 3’ on Sunday (27) became the owner of a new house, worth over Rs 1.3 m, thanks to the generosity, extended by a philanthropist in Kandy.

Corporal D.G.N.R Karunaratne of 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) during operations against terrorists in the North sustained serious injuries and turned dependent for the rest of his life. He is under rehabilitation at the ‘Abhimansala - 3’ for the time being.

Donors, Mr Ravindra Chandana Damayantha Gajasinghe and Mrs Gajasinghe, proprietors of Samini Rubber Industries (Pvt) Ltd at a cost of Rs 1.3 m built this house as a tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the War Hero who has now become totally disabled.

VIR soldiers offered their labour and construction expertise for its erection under the supervision of the VIR Seva Vanitha Unit while the coordination was effected by ‘Abhimansala - 3’ Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel D.K Aludeniya and special education officer Major S. Kodithuwakku.

The house warming ceremony at Nillambagama, Wariyagalawatta, Peradeniya on Sunday (27) was attended by Major General A. Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR, Mrs Anuja Kariyakarawana, Chairperson, VIR Seva Vanitha Unit, donors, Seva Vanitha ladies, ‘Abhimansala - 3’ officers and a gathering of well-wishers.
