Pakistan's Army Chief Arrives in Colombo on Goodwill Visit

The four-star General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, arrived in Sri Lanka Wednesday (19) afternoon on a three-day goodwill visit amidst beating of Magul Bera (auspicious drums).

A traditional ceremonial reception at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, greeted the visiting Pakistan Army’s Chief of Army Staff General Parvez Kayani, Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani and the delegation.

Both the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch warmly received the visiting General Kayani, Mrs Kayani and the delegation at the airport.

General Kayani initialled the VIP book at the Airport as a token of formality.

General Kayani during his stay in Sri Lanka is scheduled to call on His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mr D.M Jayaratne, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, High Commissioner of Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral D.W.A.S. Dissanayake.
