Overwhelming Media Support for 'Defence Seminar' Commended

Members of the print and electronic Media as well as Sri Lanka-based correspondents of foreign news agencies lavishly extended their best co-operation and maximum support to the successful conduct of the ‘Defence Seminar - 2015’ sessions, held during September 1-2 at Colombo Galadari Hotel.

Needless to mention, Media exposures, well in advance of the commencement of the seminar adequately covered arrangements in progress and offered publicity to this flagship event of the Army. On the day of the inaugural ceremony on September 1, the enthusiasm and interest, shown by the Media tribe to enter the conference hall, was overwhelming, if not astonishing, compelling the organizers and ushers to quickly find alternative seats in the designated areas for them.

Similarly, TV crews as well as professional photographers, though at times appeared to have been disturbing, performed a praiseworthy role, responding to prior instructions, intimated to them in this concern by the Directorate of Media at the Army Headquarters. All of them with a broader understanding fulfilled their roles to the best satisfaction of all.

In a very recent meeting, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva himself specifically spoke high of the Media coverage that was given to the just-concluded Defence Seminar sessions at Colombo Galadari Hotel and paid his tribute to all media institutions.

The exceptional enthusiasm for special and exclusive interviews with some of the distinguished speakers as well as with defence chiefs, including the Commander of the Army, was so pressing that authorities could not accommodate everyone and each request, for which an apology is tendered.

Media, having given serious thought to the significance of this international event of mammoth magnitude with more than 350 participants, including 68 foreign delegates, accommodated lengthy and informative features in their respective Media, carried many colourful photos and images in an impressive manner. So did many other social news websites during the two days and also in advance of the event.

Publication of supplements with interviews, online daily sessions and newspaper reportages, etc drew the focus of visiting delegates, some of who were keen on buying even copies of English dailies to take home. Others were seen surfing the online seminar sessions in their mini tabs, etc while remaining seated and compiling stories directly to the international community.

Media as the 4th estate in a democratic society, like Sri Lanka commendably rose to the occasion and recognized the efforts of the Sri Lanka Army, slated to provide a better security network to the motherland round the clock.

Their support and understanding in that direction is highly acknowledged and appreciated by the Commander of the Army on behalf of organizers and all those who sweated day and night to make the ‘Defence Seminar’ a resounding success.
