Outgoing Swiss Ambassador Calls at AHQ

Ambassador of Switzerland HE Heinz Walker - Nederkoorn, together with the Defence Attaché at the Embassy, Colonel General Staff Christof Gertsch this afternoon (20) met the Chief of Staff, Major General Dampath Fernando at the Army Headquarters (AHQ), on behalf of the Commander of the Army.

Mr Nederkoorn, nearing his completion of tenure of office in Sri Lanka wanted to make a courtesy farewell call on the Chief of Staff and introduce the incoming Swiss Defence Attaché Colonel General Staff Christof Gertsch to the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Dampath Fernando on behalf of the Commander of the Army welcomed both of them and discussed matters, related to peace support operations and most recent establishment of the full-fledged Army Directorate of Overseas Operations, through which all international Army deployments are managed.

Major General Fernando also thanked the outgoing Ambassador for his continued support to the Army during his tenure and the cooperation he extended in times of troop deployment, etc.

They also shared views with the Chief of Staff on establishment of different new structures in the Army and how it would benefit in the long run.
