Ordnance Cricketers Emerged as Champions in Inter Regiment 50 Overs Cricket Tournament

The ‘A’ Division finals in the Inter Regiment Cricket Tournament (50 Overs), organized by the Army Cricket Committee got underway on Friday (7) at Panagoda cricket grounds in the presence of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF -West) and Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Major General Bimal Widanage, Quarter Master General and Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps.

Ten Regimental teams vied for the supremacy, beginning 2 July by meeting their rivals at Panagoda Army cricket grounds, Mattegoda Army Engineers grounds’ and Hambantota Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) and Sri Lanka Armoured Corp (SLAC) teams entered the final fray defeating Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) and Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) teams respectively.

The SLAOC team in the finals batted first and scored 232 runs. Warrant Officer 1 Sekkuge Prasanna in a striking batting scored 74 runs in 41 balls with 5 sixes and 6 fours. Corporal Manjula De Zoysa collected 2 sixes and 6 fours to total 67 runs.

However, Private Tharindu Maduranga of SLAC took 6 wickets in 48 runs and posed the formidable challenge to the SLAOC score board. Accordingly, the SLAC team was restricted to 175 runs in total by their SLAOC rivals as the match reached its climax. On SLAC behalf Private Krishen Aponsu scored 45 runs and Private Chamika Silva 39 Runs.

Similarly, Private Viraj Kumara of the SLAOC taking 4 wickets knocked out their rivals with 21 runs.

SLAOC pushing SLAC team to be the first runner-up emerged as champions in the ‘A’ division by 57 runs.
