WANNI/EAST/NORTH: A stock of T-56 weapons and a large number of anti personnel mines were recovered by the Task Force-VIII troops conducting search and clear operations in PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU area on Tuesday (18).
Fifty T-56 weapons and eight thousand and sixteen anti personnel mines haphazardly laid by the LTTE during their presence in those areas to trap the advancing troops were unearthed on Tuesday (18).
Meanwhile, search and clear operations in the same area and also ADAMPAN, AMPAKAMAM, and KUDUMBIMALE areas recovered thirty-three Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), eleven hand grenades, one thermo-baric weapon, three Multi Propose Machine Guns (MPMG), ten claymore mines, three thousand and ninety-one rounds of T-56 ammunition, two more T-56 weapons, three T-81 weapons, spare parts of T-56 weapons, one 40 mm grenade launcher, one 60 mm mortar, one 60 mm mortar barrel, two thousand eight hundred and twenty rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, eight RPG chargers, one hundred and seventy rounds of 12.7 ammunition, twenty-seven mortar fuses, five uniforms, one area map, three T-56 magazines, two Outboard motors, spare parts of a radar machine and two 120 mm mortar base plates.
The same day (18), troops in POLONNARUWA recovered one hand grenade from DAMMINNA area.
In the meantime, troops serving in JAFFNA on Tuesday (18) recovered two claymore mine chargers from the general area of KARAVANAI.
